The Salvation Army is supporting victims and first responders of the Wall Fire in Butte County.

Our Emergency Disaster Services team responds to disasters through three phases: Emergency preparedness,  immediate emergency response and long term disaster recovery. Much of our work is carried out through our canteens, which are full-service “kitchens on wheels” that can serve thousands of people.

Update - July 12

  •  As of dinner last night, 1,663 meals, 857 snacks and 2,444 drinks have been served at two locations  (Law Enforcement Command Post & Evacuation Center)
  • The Law Enforcement Command Post demobilizes tonight.  The mobile canteen and crew there will finish with dinner service tonight and then head home
  • The Evacuation Center is in demobilization planning stages, possibly to demobilize by the end of this week.  We are coordinating with Red Cross officials for that timing.  We will continue to serve until it closes.
  • A Local Assistance Center (LAC) opened yesterday and will continue through Saturday evening.  We have emotional/spiritual care officers as well as our local Corps Officers giving assistance via gift cards
  • We have been able to purchase gift cards from Walmart for those who have lost property in the fire, so that they may purchase some necessities

Update - July 11:

The fire did not grow much in size on Monday. Cal Fire still estimates fire to be 5,800 acres and 40% contained. Approximately 6,000 residents remain under mandatory evacuation orders. An estimated 5,400 structures remain threatened.

Damage assessment teams have been in the burn area and more information is coming in. Thirty-seven structures are confirmed to have been destroyed (we do not know whether these are homes or structure types at this time). Re-population plans to lift evacuations and allow residents back in are being drafted.

So far, The Salvation Army has served 1,352 meals, 807 snacks and 2,076 drinks. We also continue to provide emotional support. We will remain on site for as long as we are needed.

As of July 10, we have the following updates:

  • Cal Fire estimates the fire at 5,600 acres and 25% contained.  An estimated 5,400 structures are threatened, 17 buildings destroyed and 5 damaged thus far.  Teams began going into areas that have burned today to begin their assessment of damage
  • The Salvation Army has two mobile canteens and crews serving meals at the Law Enforcement Command Post and the Church of the Nazarene evacuation center.
  • 8 employees and volunteers from Auburn, Roseville and Sacramento are assisting on site
  • So far, 724 meals, 524 snacks and 1,334 drinks have been served as of the completion of dinner this evening last night

Please pray for these folks.  They are working hard in very hot and emotional situations.  They are rock stars and making such an impact on the lives of those who are going through a tremendously difficult experience.
