The Salvation Army thanks our supporters of our wildfire relief efforts for the Carr and Mendocino Complex Fires of July and August 2018.

Without You, They Wouldn’t Have Us

When disaster strikes, your generosity strikes back.

When the Carr Fire struck Shasta County, thousands of people were devastated. Over 200,000 acres were burned and over a thousand homes were destroyed. Then came the Mendocino Complex Fire, which consisted of the Ranch and River Fires—both incidents originating in Mendocino County and quickly spreading to Lake County. In that disaster, 157 homes were destroyed and another 10,000 structures were threatened. In all, there were more than 20,000 evacuees.

But the victims were not alone. Thanks to your generosity, The Salvation Army was on the scene right away to provide relief. We cared for those affected by serving 74,000 meals and snacks (many from our mobile kitchens), and provided emotional and spiritual care to 3,700 people. We also provided over $120,000 worth of gift cards so that evacuees could purchase essential items.

We will continue to help with long-term recovery. The Salvation Army has been in Northern California for over 100 years - we aren't going anywhere and will continue to serve those who need us.

We are grateful to our media partners, KRCR-TV in Redding and Sinclair Broadcast Group. The Care for Carr telethon raised $400,000 from generous, caring people all over the country and especially from the North State. We’re also deeply thankful to everyone who has made direct contributions to our relief efforts. Redding's Bethel Church effectively became our distribution center during the heat of the crisis - taking in thousands of donated goods and distributing them in an amazingly organized manner.

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to express our gratitude for the outpouring of support we have received. Thank you.
