Alcohol Awareness Month was created in the late 1980s by the National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. The goal is to bring awareness to the public about the danger of alcohol abuse, and to encourage those struggling with alcohol abuse to seek treatment.
Short-term effects of alcohol abuse include headaches, nausea, distorted senses, impaired judgement, and trouble breathing. Long-term effects of alcohol abuse are extremely serious and can cause irreversible damage that can lead to death. Common long-term effect includes brain damage, cirrhosis of the liver, depression, and anxiety.
Adult Rehabilitation Centers are among the most widely known of all Salvation Army services and comprise the largest resident substance abuse rehabilitation program in the United States. Individuals with identifiable and treatable needs go to these centers for help when they are no longer able to cope with their problems. There they receive adequate housing, nourishing meals, and necessary medical care, and they engage in work therapy.

Here in the Del Oro Division, we also have two Adult Rehabilitation Programs. ("Programs" are a little different from "Centers.") These are specialized, six-month programs for men who need help dealing with addiction and other serious life problems.
