Bell Ringers Are a Part of History

The Red Kettle Campaign is truly iconic, practically synonymous with the Christmas season. From its humble beginnings as a local San Francisco fundraiser featuring a single crab pot in 1891, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States.

Each year, more than 25,000 Salvation Army volunteers spread throughout the country from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve to ring bells and solicit spare change and other donations from holiday shoppers. Bell ringers have a great time, whether by themselves or with a group. The Campaign helps the Army serve more than 30 million people throughout the year in the US. All money raised stays in the communities where it was collected.

So grab the hot chocolate, don a festive outfit, and ring the bell this holiday season — for a fundraising experience you’ll never forget.

Still Not Convinced? Check This Out!

At The Salvation Army, we are dedicated to Doing the Most Good.

We have one agenda: to meet human need without discrimination. In Northern California and Northern Nevada, we assist nearly 400,000 people each year. We operate dozens of community centers and service offices all around the region. And we've been pursuing our mission for over 100 years.

This Christmas, we will provide thousands of families with food assistance and presents for the kids, plus hosting community meals. Financial and emotional stress dampen the Christmas cheer of families living in poverty - that's why we endeavor to make the holidays bright with the spirit of giving.

Love has an army.
