Our Good Friend Helps Out

Friend of the Army, celebrity Chef Guy Fieri, came out with his Knuckle Sandwich Crew, just as he had during other California wildfires.

A native of the Santa Rosa area, Chef Fieri decided to bring his cooking skills to his North State neighbors to help The Salvation Army feed evacuees and responders in an area that was suffering greatly.

Thousands were fed lunch and dinner at a Red Cross shelter in the area. Those who were going through the trauma of such a terrible disaster were treated with pulled pork, mac and cheese and cole slaw. Up to 5,500 people per day were fed. Many local volunteers pitched in to make it all happen.

We are grateful to the entire Knuckle Sandwich crew for their service!

Students Get a Big Surprise

Students from our Culinary Arts Training Program in Sacramento had been seeing the reports of devastation at the Camp Fire. They knew that there are many thousands of evacuees. And they knew that those evacuees needed to be fed - so they decided to help.

Four students went to one of The Salvation Army's feeding sites at the Neighborhood Church in Chico. There they worked for three days, and then three more students replaced them for another three days. It's a lot of hard work under difficult conditions, but the students were fulfilled knowing that they were preparing quality meals for people who have lost so much.

Over the weekend, celebrity Chef Tyler Florence popped in for a visit and helped do some cooking!

The students were elated to have this visit during an exhausting few days. They even took a photo together. Thank you, Chef Florence!
