Hungry Wildcats Food Pantry Helps Students in Need

Apr 18, 2017 | by SNW

The Salvation Army Chico Corp has teamed up with California State University, Chico to create a resource for hungry students. The “Hungry Wildcats Food Pantry” provides services to students who do not have access to affordable, nutritious food.

There has been a recent increase in food insecurity at universities across the nation- students are trying to manage paying for tuition, books and board by skipping meals. Lack of food and nutrition not only affects students’ health and behavior, but it impacts their academic performance which can threaten scholarships and graduation. It is a vicious cycle for college students who are trying to make something of themselves by pursuing higher education.

The pantry is located directly on the Chico State campus and is open Monday to Fridays from 8am-4pm.
