Transitional Living Center gifted a new garden by the Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings Foundation unveiled its latest ROOT community garden at The Salvation Army’s E. Claire Raley Transitional Living Center in Sacramento. The Kings partnered with Raley’s, Northern California Construction Training (NCCT) and Soil Born Farms for this construction project.
The newest ROOT Community Garden is the second installment of Kings “ROOT”— a community garden program that encourages food literacy, healthy eating and changes the way kids, families and adults interact with food that comes from the ground. This community garden will offer residents the opportunity to grow and access fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and participate in food literacy programs.
The Salvation Army E. Claire Transitional Living Center (TLC) is a 34-unit complex that houses Sacramento-area homeless families from six months to a year. Case workers work constantly with each family to find permanent housing and employment. The Transitional Living Center is also a clean and sober program, offering recovery and prevention services to any program participant in need of the assistance.
