Providing Hope in Butte County

The Butte County Fires included the Honey, Cherokee and LaPorte fires. The Salvation Army had a mobile kitchen providing meals at the Evacuation Center at Oro Naz Church, twice delivered meals to the first responders in the area, and delivered cases of water and a 40 lb. bag of dog food to a “safe haven” for displaced animals.

Our team was at the Local Assistance Center helping those affected for two full days, where we were able to provide gift cards for household and food items. We also began Christmas sign-ups in the community of Bangor, which was hit hard.

One couple whom we served had a grateful attitude and spirit. Our team got to know them very well at the shelter, where they remarked that Salvation Army food was four-star restaurant quality. The husband, George, was more concerned for his neighbors than he was for himself. This illustrates how lovely and kind the folks of Butte County are, and it is our privilege to serve them.
